What to Expect

Intune Massage & bodyworks is located in a private, professional studio. All new clients will fill out a brief health intake and I usually take a few minutes to find out the clients needs as well as likes and dislikes. I like to utilize the time so the client gets out of their session what they came in for. I don't take time away from the actual massage, so a 60 minute massage is a 60 minute massage, same for a 90 minute session. I respect all privacy and all health information is completely confidential.

Modalities

Massage is the practice of applying structured pressure, tension, or motion manually to the soft tissue of the body, including muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints and connective tissue to achieve a beneficial response. Massage is used to relieve stress, manage pain and improve circulation. The modalities I use include:

Swedish Massage

Swedish Massage involves long, flowing strokes, often ( but not always) in the direction of the heart. It is designed to increase circulation and blood flow.

Deep Tissue

Deep Tissue is generally used for more focused work, either working a specific joint or muscle group. Generally I start out slow, this allows access into deeper layers of soft tissue.

Myofascial Release

Myofascial release is a manual massage technique for stretching facia with the goal of eliminating pain and increasing range of motion.

Neuromuscular Therapy

Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT) is used for pain relief of specific problems. NMT reduces pain, tension, and postural imbalance and strengthens tissues.

Tui Na

Tui Na is a form of Chinese massage that involves pushing, stretching and kneading the muscle.

Sports Massage

Sports Massage focuses on muscles relevant to the use of and or injury of muscles involved in a particular sport.

Hot Stone massage

Hot Stone massage uses the application of heated stones for a deeper relaxation effect on muscles, this can be used to prepare the body for deeper work.

Reiki

Reiki is often practiced in conjunction with bodywork. The word Reiki comes from the two Japanese words - rei, meaning higher power or universal force, and ki, meaning life energy. Practiced for thousands of years in Asian nations, Reiki is used today as a method of healing illness and reducing stress by placing the hands near or above the body in specific positions or patterns. I try to incorporate Reiki in every massage I do.
